Softball Recap: Thursday's Win Is Tempe's Seventh in Last Nine Outings

Tempe won the last time they faced Coronado and things went their way on Thursday too. The Buffaloes were the clear victors by an 18-1 margin over the Dons. Considering the Buffaloes have won 12 games by more than six runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Hilana Valencia was a major factor no matter where she played. She tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in strikeouts (three). She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 3-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. She has been hot recently, having posted three or more hits the last three times she's played.

In other batting news, Maribella Rivera was incredible, scoring three runs while going 3-for-4. What's more, she posted three RBI, the most she's had over her last eight matches. Another player making a difference was Celeste Alvarez, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.

Tempe was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .522. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .370 or higher in three consecutive contests.

Tempe is on a roll lately: they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 13-6 record this season. The team dominated over that stretch too, winning by an average of 11.6 runs. As for Coronado, they dropped their record down to 0-10 with the loss, which was their 13th straight at home dating back to last season.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Tempe will host Desert Sunrise at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Coronado, they will look to defend their home field on Tuesday against Dysart at 3:45 p.m.
