Northeast Kansas recap November 5, 2013
Fans got a thrill when Colby Harris and Justin Sharp connected against Valley Heights. The connection was good for 78 yards, the longest such play in Northeast Kansas this season.
Luis Rodriguez of Oskaloosa ran for the longest rushing play in the league this season against the Mustangs last week. Rodriguez ran for 81 yards on the play and finished with 166 on the day as his team fell to Valley Heights.
Derrick Stone threw for 131 yards and 3 touchdowns. He went 9-26 with 2 interceptions.
Derek Richardson was a key player and the best on defense this week as Horton lost to Riverside [Wathena/Elwood]. The 5-foot-8 defensive back recorded 1 fumble.
Nick Holmes was a passing and rushing force as Pleasant Ridge beat Atchison County. He completed 3 passes for 104 yards and 1 touchdown and also ran for 158 yards. Holmes' key target this week was Kyle Lansing, who caught 2 passes for 93 yards.
Sharp was the best wideout in the league this week as Oskaloosa fell to Tony Trimble's team. Sharp racked up 3 receptions for 103 yards.
The Chargers' Stone and Dakota Bayles have formed a dream team this season, leading Northeast Kansas in both passing and receiving yards. 5-10 quarterback Stone has thrown for 1,288 yards this season, while Bayles has 30 catches for 612 yards. The Rams' Holmes leads the league in rushing yards with 1,088.
Rodriguez of the Scott Whaley's team is only 69 yards short of surpassing 1,000 rushing yards for the season. In 118 carries Rodriguez has accumulated 931 yard this year.
McLouth extended the longest winning streak in the league this week by beating Immaculata, 48-12. The win marks fifth in a row for the the Bulldogs.
