The Community Christian Royals pushed their score all the way to 56 on Friday, but even that wasn't enough to win. They fell just short of Casady by a score of 58-56. The loss was a bit of a surprise, as Community Christian came into the game with a sizable advantage in MaxPreps' Oklahoma basketball rankings (they are ranked 100th, while Casady is ranked 924th).
Casady was led to victory by Kaden Leache and Bryson Buckingham. Leache scored 18 points along with five assists and five rebounds, while Buckingham dropped a double-double on 21 points and 13 rebounds. The matchup was Buckingham's seventh in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Payton Mitchell-johnson, who scored six points along with five assists.
Community Christian's loss dropped their record down to 4-2. As for Casady, their victory bumped their record up to 3-4.
Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. After both having extra time off, Community Christian and Luther will dust off their jerseys to square off against one another at 8:00 p.m. on January 9, 2024. Casady will have some time to savor their win since their next game is a little ways off: they'll take on Lincoln Christian at 7:30 p.m. on January 2, 2024.
