After taking the lead in the fourth quarter,
Monta Vista (Cupertino, Calif.) held on for a 21-14 victory over
Lynbrook (San Jose, Calif.) on Saturday. The difference for the Matadors was it ran for a touchdown.
The Vikings pulled ahead on a touchdown run by
Gabe Wagner-Rosales, and subsequently went into halftime leading 14-6. The Matadors scored the winning points with a rushing touchdown that came in the fourth quarter.
Despite scoring seven points in the third, Monta Vista still trailed by 1 point going into the fourth quarter. But eight points in the fourth helped MV pull out the victory.
Nathan Facciolla stood out for the Cupertino school in the win. The senior quarterback ran for one touchdown. He has now scored nine touchdowns on the season.
Wagner-Rosales made a difference for Lynbrook. The senior quarterback ran for two touchdowns. His performance brought his touchdown total to five on the year.
The Matadors had struggled this season, allowing 31.4 points per game. But Monta Vista tightened up and held LHS right around its season average of 14.5 points per game.
MV also won the meeting between the two teams last season, 27-3.
In a El Camino game next week Monta Vista (4-2) takes on Harker, and Lynbrook (2-5) will go up against Cupertino also in a El Camino game.
