University is 1-9 against Fairfax since January of 2018 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Wednesday. The University Wildcats will be playing at home against the Fairfax Lions at 6:00 p.m. Both teams took a loss in their last game, so they'll have plenty of motivation to get the 'W'.
University suffered their biggest loss since January 3rd on Monday. They took a serious blow against Palisades, falling 86-46. The loss unfortunately continues a disappointing trend for University in their matchups with Palisades: they've now lost eight in a row.
The loss doesn't tell the whole story though, as several players had good games. One of the most active was George Walls, who scored 12 points along with two blocks. Nasir Ledwith was another key contributor, scoring six points along with two steals.
Meanwhile, Fairfax's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their tenth straight loss. They took a 61-48 hit to the loss column at the hands of Los Angeles CES. While losing is never fun, Fairfax can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 864th, while Los Angeles CES is ranked 294th).
University bumped their record down to 6-15 with that defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road. As for Fairfax, they have not been sharp recently, as they've lost 15 of their last 16 games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-20 record this season.
University didn't have too much breathing room in their matchup against Fairfax when the teams last played back in December of 2023, but they still walked away with a 54-50 win. Will University repeat their success, or does Fairfax have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
