Basketball Game Preview: Heritage Eagles vs. Highlands Ranch Falcons

Heritage hasn't had much luck against Highlands Ranch recently, but that could start to change on Tuesday. It'll be a Battle of the Birds when the Heritage Eagles duke it out with the Highlands Ranch Falcons at 7:00 p.m.

Heritage fought the good fight in their overtime matchup against Colorado Academy on Wednesday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Mustangs by a score of 52-50. The Eagles just can't catch a break and have now endured five losses in a row.

Heritage might have lost, but man, Skylar Peterson was a machine: she almost dropped a double-double on 19 points and nine rebounds. Those nine boards gave Peterson a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Naomi Sanchez, who posted 13 points.

Even though they lost, Heritage smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 19 offensive rebounds. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their offensive board total in three consecutive contests.

Meanwhile, Highlands Ranch came tearing into Friday's game with five straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 33 points) and they left with even more momentum. They breezed by the Mustangs to the tune of 81-24. The Falcons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won eight matchups by 25 points or more this season.

Highlands Ranch's victory was their ninth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-2. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 67.3 points per game. As for Heritage, their defeat dropped their record down to 3-12.

Heritage suffered a grim 61-37 defeat to Highlands Ranch in their previous meeting back in January of 2024. Can Heritage avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
