On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Tino Villagomez, who scored three runs and stole two bases while getting on base in two of his four plate appearances. He is becoming a predictor of Reavis' success: when he posts at least two stolen bases the team is undefeated (and 3-4 when he doesn't). Anthony Perez was another key player, scoring three runs while going 2-for-2.
Reavis was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .455. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .333 or higher in four consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Chicago Mt. Carmel sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-6 win over Fenwick on Friday.
Connor Elenteny tossed a big game, pitching 5.1 innings while giving up three earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits.
At the plate, Anthony Chavez was excellent, scoring a run and stealing a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. That stolen base was his first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Pancho Vazquez, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Reavis pushed their record up to 9-4 with the victory, which was their 22nd straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 10.1 runs over those games. As for Chicago Mt. Carmel, the victory got them back to even at 5-5.
Chicago Mt. Carmel's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Reavis hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .374.
