Douglas County is 1-9 against Rock Canyon since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Douglas County Huskies will head out on the road to take on the Rock Canyon Jaguars at 7:00 p.m. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Douglas County comes in on nine and Rock Canyon on three.
Even though Douglas County has not done well against Denver East recently (they were 0-3 in their previous three matchups), they didn't let the past get in their way on Saturday. Douglas County came out on top against Denver East by a score of 76-68. Given Douglas County's advantage in MaxPreps' Colorado basketball rankings (they are ranked 18th, while Denver East is ranked 64th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Douglas County's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Logan Strawn led the charge by dropping a double-double on 11 points and ten rebounds. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Strawn has scored all season. Another player making a difference was Anthony Nettles, who scored 16 points along with seven rebounds.
Rock Canyon proved they can win big last Wednesday (they won by 36) but on Friday they proved they can win the close ones too. They had just enough and edged Highlands Ranch out 67-64. Having run the score up that high, both teams probably have some extra defensive drills coming up.
Rock Canyon got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Macoy Terry out in front who scored 16 points along with five assists and five rebounds. Nolan Kliewer was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with eight rebounds.
Douglas County's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 12-2. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 72.0 points per game. Rock Canyon's record is now 10-3.
Tuesday's contest is shaping up to be a scrappy match: Douglas County have been smashing the glass this season, having only averaged 31.6 rebounds per game. It's a different story for Rock Canyon, though, as they've been averaging only 27.6 rebounds per game. Given Douglas County's sizeable advantage in that area, Rock Canyon will need to find a way to close that gap.
Douglas County suffered a grim 91-70 defeat to Rock Canyon when the teams last played back in January of 2023. Can Douglas County avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
