On Monday, Amite didn't have too much trouble with Phoenix at home as they won 62-46. Given Amite's advantage in MaxPreps' Louisiana basketball rankings (they are ranked 19th, while Phoenix is ranked 145th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Amite's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Hai?ley Brumfield led the charge by dropping a double-double on 13 points and 10 assists. Another player making a difference was Saniya Addison, who dropped a double-double on 15 points and 10 rebounds.
Phoenix's lost despite a true team effort on the offense, the best among them being Serenity McClenon, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and 10 rebounds. McClenon scored a full 28.3% of Phoenix's points, the fifth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Aniyah Graham, who scored 9 points.
The win makes it two in a row for Amite and bumps their season record up to 2-0. As for Phoenix, their defeat dropped their record down to 4-4.
Amite will square off against Blount at 3:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Phoenix, they will head out on the road to face off against Hahnville at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday.
