Yuma hasn't had much luck against Kofa recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Criminals will head out to square off against the Kings at 3:45 p.m. Yuma knows how to get runs on the board -- the team has finished with ten runs or more in their past four contests -- so hopefully Kofa likes a good challenge.
On Friday, Yuma got the win against Cortez by a conclusive 15-5. The Criminals might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won nine games by six runs or more this season.
Derryel Medel was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs. Another player making a difference was Elia Palencia, who went 2-for-4 with three RBI, two runs, and two doubles.
Yuma always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. They are a perfect 8-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.
Meanwhile, Kofa fought the good fight in their extra-innings matchup against Liberty on Friday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Lions by a score of 6-5. The Kings just can't catch a break and have now endured three losses in a row.
Charlize Anaya put in work while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. That's the fewest hits she has allowed since back in April of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 2-for-4 with one home run and three RBI.
Anaya wasn't the only one making solid contact as three players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kiya Sayre, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double.
Yuma has been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 12-7 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.8 runs over those games. As for Kofa, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-15.
Kofa's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Yuma has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .455. It's a different story for Kofa, though, as they've only averaged .357. Will they be able to contain Yuma's hitters?
Yuma suffered a grim 18-2 defeat to Kofa in their previous matchup last Wednesday. Can the Criminals avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
