Ansonia (Conn.) beat Derby (Conn.) 62-28 after a strong game from
Arkeel Newsome, who rushed for five touchdowns. The scores gave the senior 20 touchdowns for the year.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by Newsome in the second quarter, the Chargers were up 19-15 at the half.
Ansonia expanded its lead to 26 points entering the fourth quarter. AHS scored five times in the third, including once on a
Jai'Quan McKnight touchdown run.
When the two teams played each other last season, the Chargers came away with a 48-6 victory.
The defeat comes as a step back for Derby, who notched a 34-7 victory over Crosby in its previous outing.
Derby (4-1) will play a non-conference game against Bethel next week, while Ansonia (5-0) will take on Masuk also in a non-conference game.
