The Lancaster Bruins entered their tilt with the Northwestern Trojans with two consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with three. Lancaster walked away with a 48-40 victory over the Trojans on Friday. Given Lancaster's advantage in MaxPreps' South Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 14th, while the Trojans are ranked 71st), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Lancaster's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Malik Tinsley led the charge by scoring nine points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Watford, who dropped a double-double on 13 points and ten rebounds.
Northwestern's loss came despite strong showings from Jaylan Moore and Mason Mitchell. Moore scored 16 points along with five rebounds, while Mitchell scored nine points along with seven rebounds and five assists. Another player making a difference was Theron Young, who scored six points along with two steals.
Lancaster pushed their record up to 15-6 with that victory, which was their third straight on the road. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 62.0 points per game. As for Northwestern, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 10-12.
Lancaster won't have much time to rest: their next match is against the Stallions at 6:30 p.m. on January 27th. As for Northwestern, they will look to defend their home court on Tuesday against the Warriors at 7:45 p.m. Indian Land is strutting with some offensive muscle, as they've averaged 62.8 points per game this season.
