Football Recap: Century Finds Playoff Glory Versus Columbia

Century had already proven themselves in the regular season and they didn't miss a beat now that it's playoff time. They blew past the Columbia Wildcats 49-21 on Friday. The result was nothing new for the Diamondbacks, who have now won five games by 22 points or more so far this season.

Justus Mangum was his usual excellent self, rushing for 194 yards and three TDs on only 11 carries, while also throwing for 83 yards and one touchdown while completing 80% of his passes. With that strong performance, he is now averaging an impressive 104.8 rushing yards per game. Tito Villano was another key player, rushing for 110 yards and three scores.

They were just one part of a punishing run game: Century was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 346 rushing yards. That's the most rushing yards they've managed all season.

Century didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Braxton Jablonski and Adrian Gonzalez. Gonzalez is on a roll when it comes to interceptions, as he's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games he's played.

Despite the loss, Columbia still got an impressive performance from Jackson Cheslak, who rushed for 198 yards and a pair of touchdowns while picking up 7.6 yards per carry. Cheslak showed off some serious burst, cutting through the defense on one rush that went for 65 yards.

The victory keeps Century at an undefeated 9-0. Those wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they've averaged 37.3 points this season. As for Columbia, their loss dropped their record down to 6-4.

Looking ahead, Century will face off against Twin Falls at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The Bruins' defense has only allowed 13.2 points per game this season, so the Diamondbacks' offense will have their work cut out for them. Columbia does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
