Basketball Recap: Golden City Takes a Loss

After flying high against Wheaton last Thursday, Golden City came back down to earth. The Golden City Eagles took a blow against the New Heights Christian Academy Cougars on Monday, falling 85-44. The Eagles haven't had much luck with the Cougars recently, as the team has come up short the last four times they've met.

Several Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Peyton Parrill, who posted 11 points. Those 11 points gave Parrill a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Robby Stafford, who put up eight points and seven rebounds.

Even though they lost, Golden City smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 13 offensive boards. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now pulled down at least eight offensive rebounds in ten consecutive games.

Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead New Heights Christian Academy to victory, but perhaps none more so than Adam Stanton, who shot 5-for-7 from downtown and dropped a double-double with 19 points and 11 boards. The team also got some help courtesy of Ben Schumacher, who went 6-for-7 en route to 14 points and three steals.

Golden City now has a losing record of 12-13. As for New Heights Christian Academy, they are on a roll lately: they've won 13 of their last 15 matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-6 record this season.

Golden City has already played their next contest (against Verona), but no score has been uploaded at the time of writing. New Heights Christian Academy does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
