Buckhorn gave their fans exactly what they wanted out of a home opener on Monday. They put the hurt on the Cordia Lions with a sharp 15-5 victory. The win continues a trend for the Wildcats in their matchups with the Lions: they've now won three in a row.
Jody Stamper and Austin Riley were a major factor no matter where they played. Throwing, Stamper struck out 13 batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Riley pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. At the plate, Stamper scored two runs while going 1-for-3, while Riley scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 3-for-5.
In other batting news, Buckhorn got a massive performance out of Brayden Campbell, who scored four runs and stole Four bases. while going 2-for-4. Another player making a difference was Noah Jones, who scored a run and stole Four bases. while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances.
Buckhorn always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .575. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Cordia only posted an OBP of .345.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Buckhorn will challenge East Ridge at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Cordia, they will look to take advantage of their home field for the first time this season as they take on Jenkins at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Cordia is coming into the matchup on a four-game losing streak dating back to last season.
