The Del Rio Rams will challenge the United Longhorns at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Del Rio will aim to continue their four-game streak of scoring more runs each contest than the last.
Del Rio took a ten-run loss the last time they faced off against Alexander, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. Del Rio sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 7-5 victory over Alexander on Friday. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Rams as it put an end to their seven-game losing streak.
Karina Limon made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she tossed eight innings while giving up three earned (and two unearned) runs off 11 hits. Limon was also solid in the batter's box, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Devyn Casillas, who went 3-for-5 with one triple and two RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in February. Another player making a difference was Amanda Muniz, who went 2-for-3 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, United posted their closest victory since February 20th on Friday. They narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past United South 8-6. The victory was some much needed relief for the Longhorns as it spelled an end to their four-game losing streak.
United's win was truly a team effort as eight different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Tatiana Mejia, who went a perfect 3-for-3 with two triples, three runs, and three RBI. Aubrey Woods also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
United was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .375. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive matches.
United's record is now 8-16-1. As for Del Rio, their victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-7 and their overall record up to 6-19.
Del Rio came up short against United in their previous matchup on March 7th, falling 6-2. Can Del Rio avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
