If The Hazleton Area Cougars were riding high off their 50-14 takedown of the Wyoming Valley West Spartans last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Hazleton Area fell just short of Williamsport by a score of 24-21. Hazleton Area was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Williamsport apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in October of 2022.
Hazleton Area's defeat came despite a true team effort from the offense, with many players turning in solid performance. Perhaps the best among them was Riley Vangilst, who picked up 107 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Another player making a difference was Zander Coleman, who rushed for 17 yards and a touchdown.
Hazleton Area's loss was their fifth straight on the road, which dropped their overall record down to 2-7. As for Williamsport, they have been performing well recently as they've won three of their last four matchups, which provided a nice bump to their 4-5 record this season.
