The East Burke Cavaliers will square off against the Bunker Hill Bears at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams are sauntering into the matchup backed by comfortable wins in their prior games.
Having struggled with ten losses in a row, East Burke turned things around against Lincolnton on Tuesday. They put the hurt on the Wolves with a sharp 9-1 win. The Cavaliers not only won on Tuesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 1st (when they won 10-0).
Addy Fortenberry spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on six hits and racked up six Ks.

On the hitting side, Ally Boyette was excellent, going 2-for-3 with three RBI, one run, and one double. Those three RBI gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Kyndal Morrison, who went 2-for-3 with three runs.
Meanwhile, Bunker Hill waltzed into their match on Wednesday with three straight wins... but they left with four. Everything went their way against the Tigers as they made off with an 8-1 victory. Considering the Bears have won eight contests by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Foard's batters probably weren't too happy with Serena Thurman, who pitched a no hitter and racked up nine Ks (she gave up six walks). Thurman has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in five consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Kylie Killian was a standout: she got on base in all four of her plate appearances with two runs and one RBI. Anna Sigmon also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
Bunker Hill always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .556. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Foard only posted an OBP of .259.
Bunker Hill's win was their fourth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 18-5. The road victories came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.5 runs on average over those games. As for East Burke, their record is now 5-20.
Wednesday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. East Burke hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .312. However, it's not like Bunker Hill struggles in that department as they've averaged .347. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
East Burke couldn't quite get it done against Bunker Hill in their previous meeting on April 4th as they fell 7-3. Can the Cavaliers avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
