Foothill has gone 8-2 against Chico recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Tuesday. The Cougars are taking a road trip to face off against the Panthers at 5:00 p.m. Foothill will be looking to extend their current six-game winning streak.
Foothill took a eight-run loss the last time they faced off against Pleasant Valley, but this time they managed to keep it close and that made all the difference. The Cougars sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 3-1 victory over the Vikings on Friday. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Cougars have posted against the Vikings since March 30, 2023.
Elisea Wiegand spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned run on three hits and racked up 17 Ks. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in eight consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Foothill saw four different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sofia Nichols, who went 2-for-3 with three RBI and one triple. That's the most RBI Nichols has posted since back in April.
Meanwhile, while Chico put up plenty of runs on Friday, the same can't be said for Enterprise. The Panthers were the clear victors by a 13-0 margin over the Hornets. The result was nothing new for the Panthers, who have now won ten matchups by seven runs or more so far this season.
Olivia Murphy was incredible, going 3-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one stolen base. Emily Babler was another key player, going 1-for-3 with two runs and two RBI.
Chico always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Enterprise only posted an OBP of .133.
Chico is on a roll lately: they've won eight of their last nine games. That's provided a massive bump to their 16-10 record this season. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 9.9 runs over those games. As for Foothill, their win was their ninth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 21-5-1.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Foothill hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .335. However, it's not like Chico struggles in that department as they've averaged .328. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Foothill took their victory against Chico when the teams last played back in April by a conclusive 15-9 score. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Cougars since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
