Sydney Cramer was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and one unearned) run off six hits (and only one walk). She has been consistent for a while: she hasn't given up more than two walks in 15 consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with four RBI. Those four RBI gave her a new career-high.
In other batting news, Notre Dame let Shea McCann and Teresa Avila run wild. McCann went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Avila went 2-for-4 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. That's the most runs Avila has posted since back in April. Eliana Lomeli was another key player, going 2-for-3 with two RBI.
Notre Dame kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 13 hits. They are 8-2-1 when they post 11 or more hits.
Meanwhile, San Bernardino waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with six straight wins... but they left with seven. They blew past the Vikings 14-3. 14 seems to be a good number for the Cardinals as the team scooped up a win with the same number of runs in their previous game.
The team relied heavily on Leila Cortes, who went 3-for-4 with three stolen bases, two runs, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Delilah Pacheco, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
San Bernardino's victory was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 17-6. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.0 runs on average over those games. As for Notre Dame, the victory got them back to even at 11-11-1.
Saturday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Notre Dame hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .336. However, it's not like San Bernardino struggles in that department as they've averaged .462. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
