MCDONOUGH, Ga. - A big 21-point second quarter helped carry the Wolverines to a 35-7 victory over
Mundy's Mill (Jonesboro, Ga.) on Saturday.
Union Grove scored on a
Luke Parker touchdown run, a kick return touchdown by Parker and a touchdown pass by
Jonathan Slade to
Caleb Ham in the quarter.
After taking the lead on a touchdown run by Parker in the second quarter, UG led 28-7 at the half.
The McDonough school expanded its lead to 28 points entering the fourth quarter. The Wolverines' lone score in the quarter came on a
Derrick Craine touchdown run.
Union Grove's standout player in the win was Craine. The senior running back ran for two touchdowns. He has now scored 15 touchdowns on the season.
The Tigers' lone touchdown came on a 5-yard run in the second quarter.
UG came into the game allowing 5.6 points per game. Mundy's Mill's seven points were well below its season average of 24.9 per game.
The defeat comes as a step back for Mundy's Mill, which notched a 56-8 victory over Forest Park in its previous outing. The loss snapped MM's 3-game winning streak.
In a AAAAA Region 4A game next week Union Grove (7-1) takes on Drew, and Mundy's Mill (3-5) will go up against Ola also in a AAAAA Region 4A game.
