Green hasn't had much luck against Clay recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Bobcats will square off against the Panthers at 5:00 p.m. Green has given up an average of 11 runs per game this season, but Monday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Green is coming in off a wild two-game stretch: after soaring to 11 runs on Thursday, they were much more limited against Manchester on Friday. They lost 11-0 to the Greyhounds.
Meanwhile, Clay waltzed into their contest on Saturday with two straight wins... but they left with three. They never let the Dragons get on the board and left with a 12-0 win. Considering the Panthers have won eight matchups by more than seven runs this season, Saturday's blowout was nothing new.
Elin Shaw was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, keeping things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out eight over five innings pitched. She has been consistent: she hasn't given up more than two walks in six consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going 2-for-4 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Maddie Penix was incredible, firing off two home runs, three runs, and four RBI while going 3-for-3. She continues to improve, besting her previous run total in each of the last three games she's played. Another player making a difference was Laney Shepherd, who went 2-for-3 with one home run, three RBI, and two runs.
Clay always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .607. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as West Union only posted an OBP of .062.
Clay's victory was their seventh straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-6. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Green, their loss dropped their record down to 4-9.
Green suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Clay in their previous matchup on April 2nd. Can the Bobcats avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
