Monterey and Watsonville are an even 5-5 against one another since March of 2017, but likely not for long. The Dores will head out on the road to square off against the Wildcatz at 3:30 p.m. on Friday. Watsonville took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Monterey, who comes in off a win.
On Wednesday, Monterey earned a 6-3 win over North Salinas. The victory made it back-to-back wins for the Dores.

Ella Myers was a major factor no matter where she played. On the mound, she struck out 12 batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off five hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts she has posted since back in May of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going 1-for-2 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI.
In other batting news, Monterey let Denae Lee and Anaiyah Brown run wild. Lee went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI, while Brown scored two runs and stole a base while going 2-for-3.
Meanwhile, Watsonville entered their contest against Salinas on Wednesday without any home losses, but there's a first time for everything. The Wildcatz came up short against the Cowboys, falling 12-1. Having soared to a lofty 17 runs in the game before, the Wildcatz couldn't push the score so high this time.
Mia Espinoza made the most of her time at bat despite the final result and went a perfect 1-for-1 with one home run. That home run marked the first that she launched this season.
Monterey's record is now 7-1-1. As for Watsonville, their defeat dropped their record down to 8-3.
Friday's game will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Monterey hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .323. However, it's not like Watsonville struggles in that department as they've averaged .348. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Monterey took their victory against Watsonville in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 by a conclusive 10-0 score. Will the Dores repeat their success, or do the Wildcatz have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
