Southern Connecticut Division I - West recap October 1, 2013
Xavier was the team that gained the most ground in the standings this week, jumping from fourth to second in Southern Connecticut Division I - West. The Falcons defeated Hamden 33-0 earlier in the week.
Fairfield Prep was able to crack the Top 25 in the state rankings this week after topping Notre Dame. The Jesuits came in at 20 in the state poll after placing at number 39 last week.
Shelton's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Mark Piccirillo threw for 262 and 3 touchdowns and Michael Pingree had 93 yards receiving. On the ground Jason Thompson contributed 231 yards. Kyle Drost helped Shelton's passing attack out by catching 5 balls for 74 yards.
Thompson was a beast in the backfield as the Gaels bested Amity Regional.
He was 17-25 with 1 interception.
Piccirillo put up the best numbers in passing as Shelton beat the Spartans. Piccirillo's favorite target this week was Pingree, who caught 6 passes for 93 yards.
The leading receiver in the league this season is Noah Cruz. The Xavier star has 11 catches for 157 yards.
Fairfield Prep took down the Green Knights 49-14 last week, the largest margin of any game. Joseph Ganim ran for 157 yards in the win.
