Softball Recap: Jonesboro Takes a Loss

Jonesboro extended their losing streak to five on Tuesday, dropping their season record down to 3-11 in the process. They lost 16-4 to the North Little Rock Charging Wildcats. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Charging Wildcats this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 15-5 back in March.

Jonesboro saw seven different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Daniella Mejia, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another was Justice Taylor, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.

As for North Little Rock, their victory bumped their record up to 7-8. The result was nothing new for the Charging Wildcats, who have now won seven contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

On North Little Rock's side, Presley Stewart and Londyn Dempster were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Stewart pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Meanwhile, Dempster tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits. Stewart has been consistent recently: she hasn't given up a single earned run in three consecutive appearances. At bat, Stewart went 3-for-4 with one home run, seven RBI, and three runs, while Dempster got on base in three of her five plate appearances with three runs and one RBI. That's the most runs Dempster has posted since back in April of 2024.

In other batting news, Sophia Gassman was incredible, going 3-for-5 with one home run, five RBI, and two doubles. Those two doubles gave her a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Aubree Kimmons, who got on base in all five of her plate appearances with one run and one RBI.

We've got plenty of inter-conference action coming up soon. Jonesboro will square off against rival Little Rock Southwest at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, North Little Rock is set to face off against their familiar foe Cabot at 5:00 p.m. on Thursday.
