After flying high against the Apollo Hawks last Tuesday, the Centennial Coyotes came back down to earth. Centennial was just a bucket shy of victory on Thursday and fell 48-47 to Ironwood. Centennial was given a dose of their own medicine in this game as Ironwood apparently hadn't forgotten their defeat the last time these teams played back in December of 2023.
When it comes to explaining why Centennial lost, one person who can't be blamed is Akasha Prpich. Despite the final result, she scored 25 points along with nine rebounds and three steals. That was a full 53.2% of Centennial's points, marking the ninth time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Kaleia Young, who scored seven points along with nine rebounds.
Centennial bumped their record down to 6-10 with that defeat, which was their eighth straight on the road. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 28.9 points per game. As for Ironwood, their win ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 5-14.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Centennial will take on Kellis at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Kellis is coming into the contest hot, having won their last nine games. As for Ironwood, they will look to defend their home court on Monday against Paradise Valley at 7:00 p.m. Hopefully Paradise Valley focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up 21 on Thursday.
