Sun Valley had lost three games at home, but after bumping their record up to 5-14 on Tuesday that streak is in the rearview. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 13-12 victory over the Oxford Hornets. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Vanguards have posted since April 9th.
Addison Mancini was a standout: she got on base in four of her six plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Layla Kistler, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI.
Sun Valley always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .531. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March.
As for Oxford, their defeat was their ninth straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-18. Even if they couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
On Oxford's side, Alexa Keenan and Isabella Palita did some serious damage despite the final result: Keenan went 2-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs, while Palita went 3-for-5 with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was Palita's first of the season. The team also got some help courtesy of Ericka Ortega, who went 2-for-5 with two runs, one double, and one RBI.
Coming up, Sun Valley will square off against Strath Haven at 3:45 p.m. on Wednesday. The Panthers' pitching crew has only allowed 3.2 runs per game this season, so the Vanguards' hitters will have their work cut out for them. Oxford does not have any more games scheduled as of now.
