The Whetstone Braves's recent rough patch got a bit rougher on Monday after their fifth straight loss. They were beaten by East 57-18. For those keeping track at home, that's the biggest defeat Whetstone has suffered since December 15, 2023.
East's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Kaliyah Barron led the charge by dropping a double-double on 20 points and 17 rebounds. That makes it 13 consecutive games in which Barron has scored at least a third of East's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Jakarol Morrison, who scored 20 points along with six assists and two steals.
Whetstone's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 1-14. That rough patch could be blamed on the team's offensive performance across that stretch, as they only averaged 24.3 points per game. As for East, they now have a winning record of 7-6.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Whetstone on the road again on Tuesday and play against Centennial at 6:00 p.m. on January 23rd. Averaging 62.2 so far this season, Centennial's high-powered offense has been in full-swing lately, so Whetstone better be ready for a challenge. As for East, they will head out on the road to square off against Beechcroft at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
