The Alva Goldbugs will be staying on the road on Friday to face off against the Kiefer Trojans. Both teams come into the game bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
With a playoff game on the line, Alva rose to the challenge on Friday. They secured a 28-23 W over the Redskins.
Lantz Mathers was his usual excellent self, rushing for 244 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 9.0 yards per carry. Mathers was no stranger to the big play, taking off on a dash that went for 50 yards.
Meanwhile, Kiefer put another one in the bag on Friday to keep their perfect season alive. They breezed by Sequoyah at home to the tune of 64-28. The result was nothing new for Kiefer, who have now won nine matchups by 20 points or more so far this season.
Kiefer can attribute much of their success to Jentry Pendergraft, who rushed for 87 yards and four touchdowns on only six carries. Zack Watson also deserves a shout-out for his two touchdowns.
Alva has been performing well recently as they've won four of their last five matchups, which provided a massive bump to their 7-5 record this season. As for Kiefer, they have yet to lose a game at home this season, leaving them with a 12-0 record.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Alva has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 179.6 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Kiefer struggles in that department as they've been even better at 265.3 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
