The Granada Matadors will challenge the Liberty Lions at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Both come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Granada is looking to give their home crowd another W after opening their season at home on Thursday. They sure made it a nail-biter, but they managed to escape with a 6-5 victory over College Park.
Ella Vonbergen looked comfortable as she tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Delaney Aumua, who went 3-for-4 with one home run, three RBI, and one double. Katelyn Stepkowski was another key player, scoring a run and stealing a base while going 2-for-3.
Granada hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now struck out at most five strikeouts in five consecutive contests dating back to last season.
Meanwhile, Liberty earned a 9-4 win over East Union on Monday.
Kaitlyn Macias made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She struck out six batters over 3.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and only one walk). That's the first time she hasn't allowed a single hit since back in April of 2024. She was also stellar in the batter's box, firing off two home runs while going 2-for-3. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in home runs.
In other pitching news, Kate Skinner looked comfortable as she struck out ten batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off six hits (and only one walk).
Back at the plate, Isabella Rice was incredible, firing off two home runs and three RBI while going 2-for-3. Another player making a difference was Taylor Jennings, who went 3-for-4 with two runs, one triple, and one double.
Granada beat Liberty 8-3 when the teams last played back in April of 2024. Will Granada repeat their success, or does Liberty have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
