The Villages Charter hasn't had much luck against Santa Fe recently, but that could start to change on Monday. The Buffalo will take on the Raiders at 7:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (The Villages Charter 2.4, Santa Fe 3.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
The Villages Charter will roll into the game after a wild two-game stretch: they only put up two runs on Thursday, then bounced right back against Nature Coast Tech on Friday. The Buffalo put the hurt on the Sharks with a sharp 11-4 victory. The Buffalo might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by six runs or more this season.
Alexa Galewski was a standout: she went 2-for-3 with three RBI, two runs, and one triple. That's the most runs she has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Zoey Schutt, who went 2-for-5 with four RBI and two runs.
The Villages Charter was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .395. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their batting average total in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Santa Fe entered their tilt with Lafayette on Friday with eight consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with nine. They never let the Hornets get on the board and left with a 2-0 win. Those two runs were actually the fewest the Raiders have put up all season, but given the result they're probably not too concerned.
The result came thanks to Brooklyn McDougall's shutout, as she gave up just two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in three consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Santa Fe let Maren Hornsby and Breleigh Ford run wild. Hornsby scored a run and stole two bases while going 2-for-3, while Ford scored a run and stole two bases while going 1-for-2. Hornsby is on a roll when it comes to stolen bases, as she's now snagged at least one in each of the last three games she's played. Callie Blair also deserves some recognition as she snagged her first stolen base of the season.
Santa Fe pushed their record up to 14-1 with the victory, which was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.2 runs on average over those games. As for The Villages Charter, their record now sits at 9-7.
The Villages Charter couldn't quite finish off Santa Fe in their previous matchup back in March and fell 6-4. Can the Buffalo avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
