Menlo-Atherton and South San Francisco are an even 5-5 against one another since May of 2019, but likely not for long. The Bears will be playing at home against the Warriors at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday. Menlo-Atherton has given up an average of 6.6 runs per game this season, but Tuesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.
Menlo-Atherton came up short against Mills on Thursday, falling 16-1. The defeat continues a trend for the Bears in their meetings with the Vikings: they've now lost three in a row.
Menlo-Atherton saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Olivia Rodgers, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one RBI.
Meanwhile, South San Francisco waltzed into their game on Friday with two straight wins... but they left with three. Their pitcher stepped up to hand the Buccaneers a 6-0 shutout. The Warriors might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won seven matchups by six runs or more this season.
The result came thanks to Sydney Semans's shutout, as she gave up just three hits and racked up six Ks. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, South San Francisco got a big performance out of Maggie Bergesen, who went 2-for-3 with one stolen base, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Liala Kinchen, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with one stolen base, one run, and one double.
South San Francisco's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 9-6. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 2.7 runs on average over those games. As for Menlo-Atherton, their loss dropped their record down to 10-6.
Tuesday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Menlo-Atherton hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .336. However, it's not like South San Francisco struggles in that department as they've averaged .375. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Everything went Menlo-Atherton's way against South San Francisco in their previous matchup back in May of 2024, as Menlo-Atherton made off with a 15-5 victory. Will the Bears repeat their success, or do the Warriors have a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
