On Saturday, Bishop Kenny strolled past San Jose Prep with points to spare, taking the game 56-41.
Bishop Kenny's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Clare Coyle, who dropped a double-double on 20 points and 14 rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Riley Talbert, who scored 16 points along with six rebounds.
Meanwhile, Mandarin fought the good fight in their overtime contest against Atlantic Coast on Thursday but wound up with a less-than-desirable result. They fell just short of the Stingrays by a score of 56-53. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest defeat Mandarin has suffered yet this season.
Even though the team lost, they still had their share of impressive performances. One of the most dominant came from Ny'keria Thomas, who scored ten points along with six rebounds and five assists. Another player making a difference was Irvieona Gantt, who scored 11 points.
Mandarin struggled to get the ball back on offense and finished the game with only four offensive rebounds. That's the fewest offensive rebounds they've managed all season.
Bishop Kenny's victory bumped their record up to 17-3. As for Mandarin, their loss dropped their record down to 9-5.
Tuesday's match is shaping up to be a masterclass in shooting: Bishop Kenny have been dynamite from deep this season, having drained 46.7% of their threes per game. It's a different story for Mandarin, though, as they've only made 36.6% of their threes per game this season. Given these competing strengths, it'll be interesting to see how their clash plays out.
Bishop Kenny strolled past Mandarin in their previous matchup back in December of 2022 by a score of 43-28. One of the biggest obstacles trying to stand in the way of that victory was Mandarin's Yakiya Milton, who scored 14 points along with six rebounds and three blocks.
