After flying high against the Faith Christian Knights last Friday, the Charleston Collegiate Sundevils came back down to earth. Charleston Collegiate was dealt a 53-23 loss at the hands of the Stingrays on Wednesday. Having soared to a lofty 62 points in the game before, Charleston Collegiate couldn't push the score so high this time.
Leading Cross to victory were PJ Benson and Ryan Mayers. Benson scored 16 points along with two blocks, while Mayers dropped a double-double on 15 points and 14 rebounds. Mayers is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last ten games she's played. Genesis Wilson was another key contributor, scoring nine points.
Charleston Collegiate has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four games, which put a noticeable dent in their 5-12 record this season. As for Cross, the win (which was their sixth in a row) raised their record to 19-4.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Charleston Collegiate will square off against the Crusaders at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. Curtis Baptist will be looking to extend their current eight-game winning streak. As for Cross, they will head out on the road to face off against the Eagles at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Beaufort Academy will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps South Carolina Rankings (they are ranked 211th, while the Stingrays are ranked 93rd).
