The Chaparral Firebirds will challenge the Casteel Colts at 2:00 p.m. on Friday. The teams are on pretty different trajectories at the moment (Chaparral has four straight wins, Casteel has four straight defeats), but none of that matters once you're on the field.
Chaparral's tournament run continued when they took on West Point on Thursday. Everything went Chaparral's way against West Point as Chaparral made off with an 8-2 victory. The result was nothing new for the Firebirds, who have now won four matchups by six runs or more so far this season.
Rylee Kobasew made a big impact no matter where she played. On the mound, she pitched four innings while giving up just one earned run off three hits. Kobasew was also big at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with two doubles and one RBI.

In other pitching news, Reese Cosman looked comfortable as she pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off two hits. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't given up more than two walks any time she's pitched this season.
Back at the plate, Kaelyn Moffitt was a standout: she went 1-for-4 with one home run and two RBI. Mary Zilveti was another key player, scoring a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Casteel came up short against O'Connor on Wednesday and fell 4-1.
Chaparral's win was their third straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 4-6. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.7 runs on average over those games. As for Casteel, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.
Casteel's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Chaparral has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .458. It's a different story for Casteel, though, as they've only averaged .360. Will they be able to contain Chaparral's hitters?
Chaparral took their victory against Casteel in their previous matchup back in April of 2024 by a conclusive 12-1. The rematch might be a little tougher for Chaparral since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
