South El Monte is a perfect 10-0 against Marshall since May of 2021 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Friday. South El Monte will look to defend their home field against Marshall at 3:30 p.m. South El Monte is strutting in with some hitting muscle as they've averaged 14.9 runs per game this season.
South El Monte's pitching crew heads into the matchup hoping to repeat the dominance they displayed on Wednesday. Everything went their way against Rosemead as they made off with a 16-0 victory. Considering the Eagles have won 12 games by more than five runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.
Emily Gaytan was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Gaytan was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs and one RBI. That's the most hits she has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Loreli Castrejon and Gia Castruita did most of the damage at the plate: Castrejon got on base in all five of her plate appearances with four RBI and one run, while Castruita got on base in three of her four plate appearances with three runs and three RBI. That's the most RBI Castrejon has posted since back in May of 2025. The team also got some help courtesy of Sofia Medina, who went 1-for-4 with one run, one double, and one RBI.
South El Monte kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 15 hits. That strong performance was nothing new for the team: they've now got at least eight hits every time they've taken the field this season.
Meanwhile, Marshall was not able to break out of their rough patch on Wednesday as the team picked up their ninth straight defeat. They came up short against Arroyo, falling 14-1.
Marshall saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Emma Detwiler, who went 2-for-3 with one run.
South El Monte has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won ten of their last 11 contests. That's provided a nice bump to their 14-2-1 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.1 runs on average over those games. As for Marshall, their loss dropped their record down to 6-11.
Friday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. South El Monte has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .584. However, it's not like Marshall struggles in that department as they've averaged .588. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
South El Monte got the 'W' in their previous meeting on April 2nd against Marshall by a conclusive 25-2 score. Will South El Monte repeat their success, or does Marshall has a new game plan this time around? We'll find out soon enough.
