Hephzibah is 2-8 against Laney since January of 2015 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Friday. Having just played yesterday, the Hephzibah Rebels will head out on the road to face off against the Laney Wildcats at 6:00 p.m. on December 29th. Hephzibah knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past nine matches -- so hopefully Laney likes a good challenge.
Hephzibah scored the most points they've had all season to find success on Thursday. They put the hurt on Josey with a sharp 69-46 victory. Given Hephzibah's advantage in MaxPreps' Georgia basketball rankings (they are ranked 160th, while Josey is ranked 488th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Traeon Brown was his usual excellent self, dropping a double-double on 19 points and 30 rebounds. Those 30 rebounds set a new season-high mark for him. The team also got some help courtesy of Martavious Williams , who scored 11 points.
Meanwhile, Laney waltzed into their game Thursday with two straight wins but they left with three. They came out on top against Jenkins County by a score of 62-50.
Hephzibah's victory bumped their record up to 8-1. As for Laney, their win was their fourth straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 4-6.
Things could have been worse for Hephzibah, but things could have been a whole lot better as they took a 71-54 loss to Laney when the teams last played back in December of 2020. Can Hephzibah avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
