The Talladega Tigers won the last time they faced the Jacksonville Golden Eagles, and things went their way on Thursday too. Talladega strolled past Jacksonville with points to spare, taking the game 69-53. Given Talladega's advantage in MaxPreps' Alabama basketball rankings (they are ranked 110th, while Jacksonville is ranked 297th), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Talladega's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jekeria Wilson, who scored 18 points. Those 18 points set a new season-high mark for her. Zae Cunningham was another key contributor, scoring 13 points along with seven rebounds and three steals.
Despite the loss, Jacksonville still got an impressive performance from Alexis Phillips, who scored 15 points along with five rebounds and three steals. Phillips scored a full 28.3% of Jacksonville's points, the third time in a row she's earned more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Rachel Sanders, who scored eight points.
The win makes it two in a row for Talladega and bumps their season record up to 7-3. As for Jacksonville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 2-8.
Talladega will head out on the road to face off against Lincoln at 6:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Jacksonville, they have the luxury of staying home another game and will welcome White Plains at 6:00 p.m. on December 15th. White Plains is coming into the match on a three-game losing streak.
