On Friday, the Ridgeland Titans faced the Vicksburg Gators in a battle between two of the state's top teams. Ridgeland came out on top against Vicksburg by a score of 57-48. The score was all tied up 25-25 at the break, but Ridgeland was the better team in the second half.
Ridgeland got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Phil Nelson out in front who scored 17 points along with six rebounds and two steals. Nelson has been hot recently, having posted two or more steals the last three times he's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Stevent Watkins, who scored 17 points.
Ridgeland pushed their record up to 21-9 with that win, which was their fifth straight at home. Those good results were due in large part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 68.6 points per game. As for Vicksburg, their loss dropped their record down to 21-6.
Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Ridgeland will take on Grenada at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Ridgeland knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past ten matches -- so hopefully Grenada likes a good challenge. As for Vicksburg, they will be playing at home against Lake Cormorant at 6:00 p.m. on Saturday. Hopefully Vicksburg is not getting complacent considering they own a much higher rank in Mississippi (they are ranked 11th, while Lake Cormorant is ranked 66th).
