In what's become a running theme this season, the Bishop Verot Vikings gave their fans yet another huge victory on Friday. They blew past North Port 47-24. Given Bishop Verot's advantage in MaxPreps' Florida basketball rankings (they are ranked 127th, while North Port is ranked 323rd), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.
Cameron O'halloran was her usual excellent self, scoring 18 points along with three steals. The team also got some help courtesy of Josee Fry, who scored six points along with 13 rebounds and three steals.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, North Port struggled to work together and finished the game with only two assists. They were crushed by their opponents in that department as Bishop Verot racked up 12 assists.
Bishop Verot has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games, which provided a nice bump to their 16-5 record this season. As for North Port, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 8-14.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Bishop Verot will square off against Barron Collier at 7:00 p.m. on Monday. Barron Collier's defense has only allowed 28.8 points per game this season, so Bishop Verot's offense will have their work cut out for them. As for North Port, North Port and Gateway will face off at 7:30 p.m. on January 29th without much rest after finishing up games yesterday. Gateway knows how to get points on the board -- the squad has finished with flashy point totals in its past four contests -- so hopefully North Port likes a good challenge.
