The Piedmont Panthers lost against the Marvin Ridge Mavericks back in February, and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Friday. Piedmont took a 54-47 hit to the loss column at the hands of Marvin Ridge. While losing is never fun, Piedmont can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' North Carolina basketball rankings (they are ranked 300th, while Marvin Ridge is ranked 116th).
Several Panthers players turned in solid performances, despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Miles Leaks, who scored 14 points. Leaks scored a full 29.8% of Piedmont's points, the second time in a row he's earned more than a third of the team's points. Nate Francis was another key contributor, scoring 7 points along with 5 assists and 5 rebounds.
Piedmont's loss dropped their record down to 3-3. As for Marvin Ridge, the win was the third in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 4-1.
Piedmont will head out on the road to face off against Rocky River at 7:30 p.m. on Wednesday. Hopefully Rocky River focused on turnovers this week since the team gave up ten on Friday. As for Marvin Ridge, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Providence at 7:30 p.m. on Monday. Providence is coming into the matchup on a three-game losing streak.
