If the Campo Verde Coyotes were feeling good off their 62-29 takedown of the Mountain Pointe Pride last Friday, their most recent game may have dampened their spirits a bit. Campo Verde took a 36-30 hit to the loss column at the hands of Casteel. The result shouldn't come as a shock considering that's the fewest points Campo Verde has scored all season.
Campo Verde's loss shouldn't obscure the performances of Kelsey Watts, who scored six points along with 22 rebounds and four steals, and Bailey Barnes who scored nine points. Watts is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last 12 games she's played.
Casteel's success was the result of a balanced attack that saw several players step up, but Ava Lewis led the charge by scoring 13 points along with seven rebounds and three steals. Jackie Rosado was another key contributor, dropping a double-double on ten points and 11 rebounds.
Campo Verde's loss ended a four-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 14-7. As for Casteel, they pushed their record up to 15-7 with that win, which was their sixth straight on the road.
Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Campo Verde will challenge Mountain Pointe at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Mountain Pointe will have to bring their A-game into this one, as they are staring down a pretty big deficit in the MaxPreps Arizona Rankings (they are ranked 222nd, while Campo Verde is ranked 50th). As for Casteel, they will head out on the road to challenge Williams Field at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday.
