Ledyard hasn't had much luck against Norwich Free Academy recently, but that could start to change on Friday. The Colonels will venture away from home to challenge the Wildcats at 4:15 p.m. Ledyard is coming into the match hot, having won their last six games.
On Wednesday, Ledyard beat Killingly 10-5.
Alexia Lemmon spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered three earned (and two unearned) runs on six hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in five consecutive appearances.
On the hitting side, Julia Bonser was incredible, going a perfect 4-for-4 with three doubles, three RBI, and one stolen base. Skylar Cimino also deserves some recognition as she hit her first double of the season.
They weren't the only ones making solid contact: Ledyard kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 18 hits. That's the most hits they've managed all season.
Meanwhile, Norwich Free Academy was not the first on the board on Wednesday, but they got there more often. They narrowly escaped with a victory as the team sidled past Westerly 7-5. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Wildcats.
Norwich Free Academy also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Dakota Bourdon gave up five runs (all of which were unearned) on five hits and racked up seven Ks.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on Aubrey Martin, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one double. Another player making a difference was Ava Boenig, who went 2-for-3 with two runs and one double.
Ledyard's record now sits at 6-1. As for Norwich Free Academy, their record is now 5-1.
Friday's contest will be a test for both teams' pitchers. Ledyard hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .424. However, it's not like Norwich Free Academy struggles in that department as they've averaged .364. With both teams so capable at the plate, fans should be ready for an impressive hitting performance.
Ledyard couldn't quite get it done against Norwich Free Academy in their previous matchup back in April of 2023 as they fell 7-3. Can the Colonels avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
