The Ashwaubenon Jaguars will take on the Green Bay Preble Hornets at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. Each of these teams will be fighting to keep a win streak alive as Ashwaubenon comes in on seven and Green Bay Preble on 13.
On Tuesday, Ashwaubenon was able to grind out a solid victory over Pulaski, taking the game 6-2.
Berritt Herr spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and one unearned) run on five hits and racked up 12 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run any time she's pitched this season.
On the hitting side, Ashwaubenon's win was truly a team effort as six different players contributed at least one hit. One of them was Jocelyn Wirth, who went 2-for-3 with one run. Grace Aichele also deserves some recognition as she brought in her first RBI of the season.
Ashwaubenon hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Pulaski struck out 12 times.
Meanwhile, Green Bay Preble put their dominant pitcher on display in the team's third consecutive shutout on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by a 15-0 margin over Sheboygan South. The Hornets might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won eight matchups by nine runs or more this season.
Tenley Kuehn made a splash no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out nine batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). Kuehn was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with one home run, four RBI, and two runs.
In other batting news, Hannah VonHaden was a standout: she went a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one stolen base, and one double. Those three runs gave her a new career-high. Chloe Savage was another key player, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three runs, one triple, and one RBI.
Ashwaubenon's victory was their 18th straight at home dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 9-1. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.1 runs over those games. As for Green Bay Preble, their record is now 13-0.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Tuesday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Ashwaubenon has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 11.2 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Green Bay Preble struggles in that department as they've been averaging 10.8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
Ashwaubenon skirted past Green Bay Preble 2-0 in their previous matchup back in May of 2024. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Jaguars since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
