Lake Howell has gone 8-2 against Oviedo recently and they'll look to pad the win column further on Thursday. The Silverhawks will square off against the Lions at 7:00 p.m. Lake Howell is coming into the matchup hot, having won their last 14 games.
Lake Howell is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They never let Evans get on the board and left with a 15-0 win. Considering the Silverhawks have won 11 games by more than five runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.
Nisabella Fatzinger-Rodriguez was a major factor no matter where she played. She looked comfortable on the mound, pitching two innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than one earned run in four consecutive appearances. She was also stellar in the batter's box, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI, two runs, and one double. That's the most RBI she has posted since back in April of 2024.
In other batting news, Cate Haggerty and Gianna Terito did most of the damage at the plate: Haggerty went a perfect 3-for-3 with three runs, two doubles, and two RBI, while Terito went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one triple, and one RBI. That's the most hits Haggerty has posted since back in February. The team also got some help courtesy of Jordan Hodosko, who got on base in two of her three plate appearances with two runs and one stolen base.
Lake Howell always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .750. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Meanwhile, there's no place like home for Oviedo, who bounced back after a loss on the road two weeks ago. They were the clear victors by a 17-3 margin over Wekiva on Tuesday. The high-scoring performance was a welcome turnaround for the Lions' hitters, who had struggled in the games prior.
Maile Dunn made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she struck out eight batters over three innings while giving up three earned runs off only one hit. Dunn was even better at the plate, going a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, four RBI, and one double.
In other batting news, Oviedo let Avery Madden and Scarlett Griffiths run wild. Madden went 3-for-4 with one home run, four runs, and one double, while Griffiths went 3-for-4 with three RBI, one triple, and one run. That triple was Griffiths' first of the season. Another player making a difference was Ansley DeVos, who went 1-for-2 with two runs and one triple.
Lake Howell pushed their record up to 20-4 with the victory, which was their eighth straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 1.6 runs on average over those games. As for Oviedo, their victory bumped their record up to 4-21.
Oviedo's pitching crew has a crucial task ahead of them: Lake Howell hasn't had any issues making contact this season, having earned a batting average of .333. It's a different story for Oviedo, though, as they've only averaged .227. Will they be able to contain Lake Howell's hitters?
Lake Howell beat Oviedo 5-1 in their previous meeting back in April. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Silverhawks since the squad won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
