Lake Minneola is 9-1 against South Lake since April of 2022 and they'll have a chance to extend that dominance on Thursday. The Hawks will take on the Eagles at 7:00 p.m. Both squads will be entering this one on the heels of a big victory.
Lake Minneola is on a roll after a high-stakes playoff matchup on Tuesday. They put the hurt on Evans with a sharp 19-1 win. The Hawks' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Colson May was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He tossed one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than one earned run in ten consecutive appearances. He was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI.
In other pitching news, AJ Acosta looked comfortable as he struck out six batters over two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit (and only one walk). Those six strikeouts gave him a new career-high.
Back at the plate, Fabian Antosanti was excellent, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 1-for-1. Another player making a difference was Tyler Pierre, who scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in both of his plate appearances.
Lake Minneola kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Evans only managed two hits.
Meanwhile, South Lake owes their pitching crew a big pat on the back after their performance on Tuesday. They blew past Wekiva 9-0. The victory continues a trend for the Eagles in their matchups with the Mustangs: they've now won four in a row.
South Lake also got a great performance from L Edwards as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out six over five innings pitched.
At the plate, the team relied heavily on N Mclees, who scored two runs and stole four bases while going 3-for-3. Z Siokis was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Lake Minneola has been performing well recently as they've won 11 of their last 13 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-7 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.5 runs on average over those games. As for South Lake, they now have a winning record of 13-12.
The pitchers for both teams better look sharp on Thursday as neither team is afraid to steal. Lake Minneola has been swiping bases left and right this season, having averaged 2.7 stolen bases per game. However, it's not like South Lake struggles in that department as they've been averaging 3.5 stolen bases. The only question left is which team can snag more.
Lake Minneola beat South Lake 11-7 when the teams last played back in March. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Hawks since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
