The Ashbrook Greenwave will head out on the road to face off against the Oak Grove Grizzlies at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Both teams come into the match bolstered by wins in their previous matches.
Last Friday, Ashbrook strolled past Huss with points to spare, taking the game 24-9. The victory was just what Ashbrook needed coming off of a 24-3 loss in their prior contest.
Multiple players turned in solid performances to lead Ashbrook to victory, but perhaps none more so than JJ Gordon, who rushed for 97 yards and two touchdowns on only five carries. Gordon was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 68 yards. Jamir Fox and his 91 yards on the ground were also a key factor in Ashbrook's win.
The team's defense also helped out by holding Huss to a paltry 239 yards. A big part of that defensive dominance came down to Ashbrook's ability to keep the quarterback under pressure: the team laid him out five times before it was all said and done. The heavy lifting was done by Letrasky Pressley and Caleb Gordon who racked up five sacks between them.
Meanwhile, Oak Grove had already won seven in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 34.7 points), and they went ahead and made it eight on Friday. They claimed a resounding 42-14 win over Central Davidson on the road. Considering Oak Grove has won eight contests by more than 23 points this season, Friday's blowout was nothing new.
Oak Grove's win was the result of several impressive offensive performances. One of the most notable came from Jyden Barnes, who rushed for 105 yards and a touchdown on only nine carries. Connor Creech was another key contributor, rushing for 36 yards and two touchdowns.
Ashbrook's victory bumped their record up to 4-6. As for Oak Grove, their win was their tenth straight on the road (dating back to last season), which bumped their overall record up to 9-1.
Friday's game might be decided on the ground as these two are both standouts in the run game. Ashbrook has been excellent on the ground this season, having averaged 151 rushing yards per game. However, it's not like Oak Grove struggles in that department as they've been even better at 234.7 per game. It's looking like Friday's contest might have some serious battles in the trenches.
