In other batting news, Patrick Williams and Kyler Williamson did most of the damage at the plate: Williams scored two runs and stole Three bases. while going 1-for-3, while Williamson scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances. Williams is becoming a predictor of Branford's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 1-4 when he doesn't). The team also got some help courtesy of Enalee Perry, who scored two runs while going 2-for-4.
Branford hit smart and finished the game with only two strikeouts. The team's really been improving in that area: they've now improved their strikeout total in three consecutive games.
Meanwhile, Chiefland narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Taylor County 7-6. That's two games straight that the Indians have won by just one run.
Chiefland also got a great performance from Hunter Boyd as he didn't allow a single earned run while striking out eight over 5.1 innings pitched. The dominant performance gave Boyd a new career-high in strikeouts.
On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Bryce Thomas, who scored two runs while going 3-for-4. He also hit a double, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Jolan Doty, who scored a run and stole a base while going 1-for-4.
Chiefland's win was their fifth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-3. The wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 6.6 runs over those games. As for Branford, their victory bumped their record up to 6-4.
Branford might still be hurting after the 11-1 defeat they got from Chiefland in their previous matchup back in April of 2019. Can Branford avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
