The Chapman Panthers had already won five in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 40.4 points), and they went ahead and made it six on Friday. They claimed a resounding 50-21 victory over Blue Ridge on the road. The contest was pretty much decided by the half, when the score had already reached 47-7.
Chapman got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Coleman Gray out in front who threw for 128 yards and two touchdowns while completing 100% of his passes, and also punched in a touchdown on the ground. Mathai Scott also deserves a shout-out for his three touchdowns.
When it comes to explaining why Blue Ridge lost, one person who can't be blamed is Kb Henderson. Despite the final result, he rushed for 141 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.1 yards per carry. Henderson was no stranger to the big play, turning on the jets for a run that went for 67 yards. Another player making a difference was Colton Clouse, who threw for 120 yards and a touchdown.
Chapman's victory was their third straight on the road, which bumped their overall record up to 8-1. Those victories were due in large part to their offensive dominance across that stretch, as they averaged 43.0 points per game. As for Blue Ridge, their defeat dropped their record down to 1-8.
Chapman will be playing at home against Broome at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. Broome is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune. As for Blue Ridge, they will head out on the road to face off against Travelers Rest at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.
