Baseball Recap: Harlingen South's Win on Thursday Extends Winning Streak to Six

Harlingen South waltzed into their matchup on Thursday with five straight wins... but they left with six. Everything went their way against the Porter Cowboys as they made off with a 12-2 win. Considering the Hawks have won 13 games by more than five runs this season, Thursday's blowout was nothing new.

Ryan Porter looked comfortable as he didn't allow a single earned run over four innings pitched. He has been consistent: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.

On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Daniel Lopez, who fired off two home runs, six RBI, and three runs while going 4-for-4. Those home runs marked the first that he has launched this season. The team also got some help courtesy of Josh Ruiz, who got on base in three of his four plate appearances with three runs and one stolen base.

Harlingen South always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .677. The last time their OBP was this high was back in March of 2024.

Harlingen South pushed their record up to 20-5 with the victory, which was their third straight at home. Those home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.7 runs over those games. As for Porter, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost seven of their last eight contests. That's put a noticeable dent in their 5-16 record this season.

Harlingen South wasted no time getting back out on the field and has already played their next matchup, a 12-0 victory against Donna North on the 22nd. As for Porter, they also didn't take long to hit the field again: they've already played their next game, a 15-5 loss against Edcouch-Elsa on the 22nd.
